The Fruit Man Visits

Mrs Yvonne Allison, the School’s catering manager, arranged a visit by our fruit and vegetable supplier, Mr Hulse.  On the lawn in front of the main house, he laid out a tantalising display of fresh fruits and vegetables including mango, papaya, pine fruit, asparagus with a lemon dressing and black tomatoes, all washed down with a  ‘fruits of the forest’ smoothie.

Priority was given to our Year 2 pupils and the new children starting in September who were visiting on the Induction Day.  They were able to go round the tables with their Year 5 buddies, who will be mentoring them during their first weeks in Year 3.  The older children were also able to point out that their new friends should not expect this as normal fare for every break time.  The children all enjoyed the experience and most were prepared to try foods that they had not tasted before.  That said, the undoubted winner was the plate of strawberries dipped in chocolate.

Holroyd Howe Independent, the School’s catering contractor, takes healthy eating very seriously and a range of fruit and vegetables is always on the menu.  From the experience of this tasting, it is not difficult to persuade our children to eat well.
