Pupils were inspired by the Victorian-inspired ‘Steam Punk’ sub-genre of science fiction to create these junk sculptures and printed etchings. Heath Mount top Steam Punk novels include Phillip Pullman’s Clockwork and The Golden Compass, Tin by Padraig Kenny, Mortal Engines by Phillip Reeve and the Cogheart series by Peter Bunzl.

 Review
I really like the Mortal Engines series of books because
of the creativity of the storyline and the setting. Mortal Engines is based thousands of years in the future where towns, cities and conurbations are on giant caterpillar tracks. Bigger cites engulf towns and smaller cities and conurbations eat big cities. Different cities have different ways of getting around. The view of the earth is barren wasteland with no scenery at all. The main characters are Tom and Heather who are both the same age and live in London. When they are thrown off the city and left to die, it is up to them to find their way back and put things right. I am fascinated by the idea of mobilized cities and how they must eat each other to survive. It’s like the food chain but with cities. I would recommend this book because it is so readable, and I didn’t ever want to put it down. Reuben G
