Home-Start Stevenage is a voluntary organisation which offers regular support, friendship and practical help to young families under stress in their own homes.  The funds we raise allow us to support a very valued service within the local community close to Heath Mount.

The Orissa Project - India

For the past couple of years, a Heath Mount parent (who is a local dentist) has travelled to an orphanage in the village of Orissa in India, taking his own supplies to provide free dentistry to anyone who needs it.  There is always a huge line waiting and most of the children treated have never seen a dentist.  They would not be able to afford the treatment that this parent gives free of charge.  Recently, our dentist has also raised money to help the orphanage pay for building rental, food, clothing and educational items.  The orphanage is in desperate need of funds in order to continue to offer support to as many children as possible.

This charity, founded in December 2002, offers much-needed help to children living on the streets of Kabul.  It aims to provide these street children with one hot meal a day, advice on safety and basic hygiene, plus educational and training opportunities.  In a country where war has created many vulnerable orphans, the Friends of Aschiana help to ensure these children have access to a place of safety. With low overheads, most of the funds raised go straight to Aschiana centres in Kabul.
