Director of Music
The post arises due to the promotion of the current post holder to Director of Studies at Ryde Junior School.
Heath Mount is a really musical school, with high standards and fantastic levels of participation. Our community singing is second to none! We currently run an orchestra, drum group, Jazz group, chamber groups and no fewer than four choirs. Pupils even form Rock groups from time-to-time. Large numbers of pupils have instrumental tuition provided by a strong team of peripatetic music teachers, organised by a music department assistant. Regular orchestral workshops take place out of school hours and involve pupils of all abilities from ages 6 to 13. Heath Mount pupils regularly achieve music scholarships to major public schools.
Heath Mount has once again qualified for the BBC Song’s of Praise Choir of the Year with a choir numbering 50 pupils. The choir is touring the Lake Garda region this Summer and is recording a CD. We are currently advertising for a new Head of Choirs, who will report directly to the Director of Music.
The department is very well resourced, being housed in a separate music building with four small rooms for individual music lessons and a further room large enough for whole-class teaching and orchestral and choral rehearsals. There are further rooms available in the main house for larger groups to assemble.
We are looking for someone who can inspire pupils, parents and colleagues alike. The successful candidate will be an accomplished musician with a proven record of musical success with children or young people. S/he will be responsible for developing instrumental music and ensuring that pupils are ready for public performances. S/he will oversee choral music to ensure that the current high standards are equalled or surpassed. The person appointed will have strong leadership qualities and a clear vision for the future of music at Heath Mount.
