Learning

The curriculum followed is broader and more demanding than the National Curriculum. Some pupils will work a year or more ahead of National Curriculum requirements and will embark on secondary school study whilst still in the junior phase.

Although classes are mixed ability, the widespread use of setting allows pupils to proceed at a pace suited to each child’s ability.

In Years 7 and 8 pupils follow the Common Entrance syllabus in each subject area. Heath Mount has a very good record of success in the Common Entrance examinations and has placed pupils at many leading senior schools.

The academic elements of the curriculum are carefully balanced by including creative, musical, artistic and sporting lessons in the school’s curriculum.

Taking part in inter-school sport, hobbies, plays, visits, role plays, musical performances and expeditions is very much part of the education that we provide; they play a pivotal role in developing young people.

Each term, a special Curriculum Day enables pupils to learn through a programme of trips and workshops.  Recent Curriculum Day events have included: African Workshops (which stimulated pupils to form their own drum group); Tudor and Victorian days; visits to The Tower of London, Kew Gardens and the Roald Dahl Museum.
