Students sing their way into national choir

14 talented young children from Heath Mount School are over the moon after hearing that they have been chosen to join the National Youth Choir.  This is a tremendous accolade for the youngsters involved and represents an unrivalled opportunity for them to benefit from professional training.  The fact that this many children have been chosen from a single school is unprecedented, and is a huge tribute to the inspirational instruction given by mentor and Director of Music, Andrew O’Brien.

The National Youth Choir is recognised as one of the most outstanding choirs in the world, and thousands of hopefuls auditioned for places on this prestigious programme, which is always heavily oversubscribed. The children all auditioned for places in the group, and had to perform two solo pieces in front of a panel of judges.

The children will join some of the best young singers in the Country, and take part in a series of courses that will include individual voice coaching and lessons in musicianship.  They will also take part in intensive rehearsals in the build up to performing at some of the UK’s most famous venues and events, starting with a performance at the Royal Albert Hall at Easter.

Andrew O’Brien was ecstatic when he heard the news “I could not have imagined in my wildest dreams that so many of our children would make it through!  The audition process is hard, and they are looking for the very best, so they all must have performed brilliantly.  I am so proud of them and I am sure that they will make the most of this wonderful opportunity”.
