Llangollen International Eisteddfod 2019

Dear Parents,

I am delighted to be writing this week’s Newsletter as the Headmaster of the Llangollen Children’s World Choir of the Year 2019. We received notification this morning that following a peerless set of performances at the world-renowned Llangollen Eisteddfod, Heath Mount’s Bax Choir has been crowned Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod ‘Children’s Choir of the World’.

The Choir performed in two categories at the festival, taking the title of Children’s Folk Choir and finishing second in the Junior Choir category. Their scores for both performances were so high that they finished first overall, beating all 27 Junior and Senior Choirs from all over the world. To put this into perspective, choirs from Singapore, China, Indonesia, Canada, Wales and the Philippines have all won this competition over the last seven years. Heath Mount is the first English Choir to win this competition this decade.

Fittingly, Miss White was awarded the Conductor’s Prize for her work as the most Inspiring Conductor throughout the Festival.

We are delighted for all the pupils, Miss White and the Music department who have all worked so hard towards this magnificent goal. I am also extremely grateful to the parents who have supported the Bax Choir on this wonderful journey.

Our magical week ended with the inter-house swimming galas for Years 3 & 4, Years 5 & 6 and Years 7 & 8 all taking place. I would like to applaud all of our children for their competitive but sportsmanlike behaviour throughout.

Similarly, the Year 2 children performed beautifully at their Succession Service on Tuesday, a day in which we celebrate each child’s contribution to the Pre-Prep and their rite of passage into the Prep School.

This weekend sees many of you attending one of the highlights of our social calendar – the du Maurier Summer Ball. The Senior Management Team look forward to celebrating with you, if you are attending.

Kind regards,

Chris Gillam

Headmaster
