The Outdoor Education programme at Heath Mount is an important and integral part of each child’s learning journey. Outdoor Education provides an effective, tried and tested vehicle for developing a child’s confidence, initiative, social skills and self-belief.
At Heath Mount, we have developed our own, progressive Outdoor Education curriculum which is run by our own qualified staff rather than being contracted out and is thus tailored to the needs of our children by staff who know them extremely well. We believe that this sets us apart from comparable prep schools and strengthens the learning opportunities we offer. We are also privileged in having extensive grounds and woodland in which our pupils can play and explore as well as having our own forest school.
The outdoor classroom provides a wealth of learning and development opportunities for all pupils, from a pre-prep child’s first exploration of the forest school to a year 8 child kayaking on a sea loch, climbing an exposed cliff face or navigating their way confidently across wild moorland.
The programme is based upon a spiral curriculum in which skills are introduced and then revisited and built upon each year.
Our programme is based upon three core strands which, when woven together, collectively develop a child’s character, build their confidence and equip them to face undaunted whatever challenges life throws their way:
