At the end of the Summer term, one of our great Heath Mount traditions is pairing up each of our Year 2 pupils with a Year 5 buddy as they prepare to move out of the Pre-Prep and into the Lower School. Here are some excerpts from Year 5’s letters in which they introduce themselves to their buddies for the first time, talk House loyalties and
hand out some top tips for the year ahead.
Dear Year 2 Buddy,
My name is Sam and I am 10 years old and have been at Heath Mount since Nursery. I have loved being part of Heath Mount and every day I go to school and think how lucky I am to be at such a wonderful school with such a big playground and such amazing teachers. I can’t wait to be your buddy!!

Buddy Letters
I am in Galahad and it is the absolute best House! You and I should be in the same House squadron and we will be together for the House challenges, so if you get stuck on one of the challenges I will be there to help you. In the Prep School I really love the DT. In Year 3, you will make teddy bear waistcoats and do cooking and you also get to make burger monsters
and use glue guns. If you don’t have a clue what these things are, you will soon find out!! One of the best things about moving into the Prep School is you will start playing matches against other schools. I love having match tea as you often get jam doughnuts and lots of squash!
I remember finding out who my buddy was and I was so excited – and now it’s the other way round and I can’t wait to meet you! I know it can feel quite scary going into Year 3, but think on the upside! It is also really exciting moving into a whole new part of the school, and I will be there to look out for you if you ever get lost or need
to know anything. You have a much bigger playground and lots of woods to make camps in and lots of open grassy space to play football. There is so much to look forward to in
Year 3! If I can give you one top tip,
it is to keep a copy of your timetable at home so you can always check what you might need for the next day.
It doesn’t matter which class you
go into or which teacher you have because they are all really kind and helpful. I am really looking forward to seeing you when we can all return to school, and please remember that I will always be looking out for you and you will always have someone by your
side if you are ever in need or lost.

        Dear Year 2 Buddy,
My name is Martha and I am 10 years old. I have been at Heath Mount for 7 years and I really love the school. I am very excited
to meet you. You may already know by now that you will be in Galahad, the same house as me, which is the best. We do lots
of house challenges including swimming galas and House sports matches. We have so much fun! My favourite subject is art, what
is yours? I don’t find maths easy so don’t ask me any really, really hard maths questions – but do ask the teachers as they will explain everything in detail in fun ways!
In Lower School you get a chance to play on the big field and make camps with your friends. You also play sports against other schools, get involved in performances, go on exciting trips and earn plusses for your house. You will really enjoy Lower School as much as I did. The teachers are amazing, kind and funny. If you need help there is always Mrs Parfitt at the front desk to help. Here are some top tips. Try to finish your work on time before lunch and break time so you get to lunch quicker and get a seat with your friends. You will have a lot more kit from Year 3 so try to be as organised as you can
and pack your games bag and keep it tidy so you know where everything is.
Finally, I really hope you are looking forward to your next adventure at Heath Mount. I will always do my best to look after you and help you in any way I can. I will look out for you whenever I can during lunch and break times. I am super excited and proud to have you as my buddy.
Best wishes,
Martha C
Dear Year 2 Buddy,
My name is Guy. I am 10 years old and I have been a student at Heath Mount for 7 years. I remember the Pre-Prep – it was really fun. When I moved to the Lower School, it felt like an amazing, exciting jump with the massive playground and new teachers.
I promise you will have a great time in the Lower School and you will thoroughly enjoy the Main School, too.
One big difference between Year 2 and Year 3 is Houses. Hopefully you will be in Percivale because they are the best by far. I am interested in sport. I like it because it’s fun and competitive and I like that feeling when you play with your team mates. I bet you’re looking forward to playing matches against other schools. My first match was so fun and you get a big crowd to watch you, too!
Life in the Prep School is quite different to life in the Pre-Prep.
One big difference is the playground. You will now have the use of around 2 to 3 massive football pitches and the use of a huge wood. The things I enjoy most about the playground is building camps and playing football with my friends. Actually, at the end of every school year we have a camp award. I bet you will have a
great time building camps and I hope you get a prize.
I am really looking forward to meeting you! With best wishes,
Guy H
