Heath Mount Reaches Finals of the Independent School of The Year Awards

We are delighted to reveal that we have been selected as one of six finalists in the Independent School of The Year Award for Sporting Achievement.  The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony being held on Tuesday 14th October at The Law Society in London.

The news follows our recent achievement at The Muddy Stilettos Best Schools Awards, where we won the award for Prep School 'Most Passionate About Sport'.  Our recent inclusion in the prestigious Tatler Schools Guide 2026 also references our 'serious sporting success.'

At Heath Mount, we give children every opportunity available to get active while laying the foundations for long-term athletic development and a lifelong love of fitness.  Our pupils know the mental health benefits of regular exercise and recognise its positive impact on resilience, confidence and overall well-being.

Our unique PE programme was implemented in 2022 to move beyond traditional models and prioritise creating well-rounded, adaptable athletes who are prepared for both competitive sport and an active lifestyle into the future. Instead of focusing solely on any single, conventional sport, we emphasise fundamental movement skills and key components of fitness to improve pupils’ physical wellbeing and understanding of health and fitness.  This has led to improved performance across each of the sports played in school.   Pupils are stronger, fitter and healthier across the board.

The past two years have seen pupils achieve remarkable results at national and regional level - with notable successes in netball, swimming, cross country, hockey and athletics.

Our sports scholars’ programme for Years 7&8 offers weekly timetabled bespoke coaching, mentoring, nutrition workshops and visits from elite-level athletes.   The programme is tailored to each individual pupil and is renowned for achieving some of the best senior school scholarship results in the country. Eleven of our recent Year 8 cohort (25% of the year group) were awarded scholarships to schools such as Millfield, Oundle, Rugby, Haileybury - an 11% increase since the revamped scholars programme began in 2023.

We are passionate about giving our senior sports pupils every opportunity to develop their leadership skills, with the captains of each sport helping run clubs and sessions for the younger children.  Our Year 8 swim captains, for example, get in the pool to help encourage Reception and Year 2 pupils on a weekly basis!

We’re also a school that believes in sport's power to transform young lives for the better.  We are committed to regularly sharing our facilities and expertise in the community.
