An incredible 52% of Year 8 Leavers Earn Scholarships To Senior Schools
We are proud to announce that 52% of our Year 8 cohort have been awarded scholarships by senior schools across academics, sport, art, drama and music. These superb results are testament to the pupils' dedication to their specialist subjects whilst following our unique Scholars' Programme which prepares pupils for scholarship assessments over Years 7&8. Each pupil has fully embraced all of the enrichment opportunities they have been given, taking advantage of extra study or training sessions, additional music lessons and performance opportunities.
Academic: 5 pupils have been awarded prestigious academic scholarships following a rigorous and highly competitive process. The awarding schools are Brighton College, City of London School, Rugby School, Haileybury and Bishop's Stortford College. Each child has attended extra weekly lessons run by heads of department to cover material across a range of subjects as part of our Academic Scholars' pathway. They have developed debating and presenting skills as well as their ability to 'think outside the box'.
Sport: Following a re-vamp of our PE programme and Sports Scholars' Programme we have seen some of our best results ever! 11 pupils have won scholarships to some of the most prestigious senior schools in the country, a total of 25% of the year group and up four scholarships from last year. These include 3 scholarships to Uppingham, 3 to Haileybury, 2 to Millfield, 1 to Oundle, 1 to Rugby School and 1 to Bishop's Stortford College. These scholarship winners have been excellent ambassadors for Heath Mount sport and have shown great commitment to their training. They have benefited from weekly strength and conditioning sessions as well as small-group coaching in their specialist sports and workshops with visiting coaches and pro athletes.
Music: It has been an especially successful year for our music scholars, with 6 pupils in Year 8 gaining scholarships to Haileybury, The Leys, Millfield and Bishop's Stortford College. A Year 7 pupil who was re-locating to the South Coast also earned a scholarship to Ballard School, while 3 pupils in Year 6 also won music scholarships to Haileybury and Bishop's Stortford College. These talented young musicians have made wonderful contributions to the musical life of the school, participating in our many orchestras and ensembles and singing in our award-winning Bax Choir. As part of our music scholars' programme, they have enjoyed additional music lessons, a trip to the Youth Proms at The Royal Albert Hall and multiple opportunities to perform solo.
Art & Drama Scholarships: Two pupils have been awarded art scholarships to Ampleforth and Framlingham with a 3rd pupil also offered an award to Christ's Hospital School. They all worked hard to complete outstanding portfolios and took part in extra weekly tuition sessions run by our expert team of art teachers. Two pupils also won drama scholarships to Haileybury and a third was awarded a scholarship by Felsted. Our drama pupils worked hard to develop their craft over the last two years with our Head of Drama, honing their improvisation and character development skills in our drama scholars' group and during one-to-one rehearsals.
Congratulations to all!
