Orchestras & Ensembles Concert 2026

From Bohemian Rhapsody to Harry Potter, An Evening of Musical Magic

On Tuesday, we welcomed a full house of parents and family members to enjoy a tremendous evening of music featuring all 19 instruments that are studied at Heath Mount. The concert opened in spectacular fashion with the Concert Band performing Arabian Dances by Roland Barrett. This vibrant and confident start immediately captured the audience’s attention, with a special mention to clarinettist Marcus C for his atmospheric opening solo. The Percussion Ensemble followed, delivering a performance full of rhythm, precision and drive. The Intermediate Orchestra then impressed with a rich and confident performance of the Theme from the New World Symphony (arr. Brad Pfeil), particularly noteworthy given many have only recently begun learning their instruments.

As the evening progressed, the senior ensembles brought maturity and polish to the programme. The Senior Strings performed Sword Dance from The Capriol Suite with assurance, while the Guitar Group’s performances of Get Back and Twist and Shout brought a cheerful energy to the concert.

The Junior Strings and Wind Band once again delighted the audience with their enthusiasm and engaging repertoire, including Kingston Calypso, Broadway or Bust and Atomic Clock by Bernotas. A lively rendition of Macarena (arr. Sebesky) added humour and flair.

The Jazz Band, meanwhile, brought style and swing with Rock This Town, whilst the Scholars' Band delivered a striking performance of Just a Closer Walk With Thee. One of the most extraordinary highlights was the Chamber Strings’ full-length performance of Bohemian Rhapsody, a truly remarkable achievement.

The concert concluded with a cinematic finale from the Symphony Orchestra performing The Magic of Harry Potter.

We are immensely proud of all our musicians and thank our dedicated staff and supportive parents for making such an inspiring evening possible.
