  • Year 7 & 8 academic scholars enjoyed a visit to The Last Days of Pompeii exhibition in London yesterday. They travelled back 2,000 years thanks to VR and cutting-edge immersive tech to wander the ancient Roman house 'The Villa of Mysteries', observe the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, and come face to face with gladiators and lions in thrilling live-action battles in the gladiator arena. Pupils were also able to examine rare Roman artefacts and replicas and gain an insight into the daily lives of Pompeii's citizens, their demise and how the events of this deadly natural disaster were discovered years later. Our Academic enrichment programme is one of several scholarship pathways offered to our senior pupils. The programme allows us to go beyond the curriculum, boost curiosity and expand children's learning as they prepare for senior school life and scholarship assessments. • Year 1 dressed up as their favourite storybook characters for our Traditional Tales Day yesterday. Teachers had organised a fun-filled programme to celebrate the enduring power of fairytales and the importance of imagination. Craft activities included designing Rapunzel's tower (complete with tumbling hair braid), making a magical mirror and re-creating Cinderella's golden carriage. The children also transformed empty shoeboxes into detailed fairytale dioramas, creating scenes from stories of their choice. It was lovely to see them proudly sharing their miniature worlds with one another. Music and drama teacher, Mrs Davies, also visited us for a special drama workshop in which the children sang songs and created 'freeze frame' scenes to retell the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Well done, Year 1! #preprep #education #creativecurriculum #cherishingchildhood #fairytales
